Who can receive housing support?

Students experiencing homelessness have the right to a free, appropriate public education. McKinney-Vento support is available when a family lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.

This can include sharing housing because of hardship; staying in a motel, hotel, trailer park or campground without adequate alternative accommodation; emergency or transitional shelter; awaiting permanent foster care placement; or living in a car, park, abandoned building, station or another place not intended for housing.

Danielle Ludwick is the McKinney-Vento family liaison. Use the Housing support link above to call.

How does foster care support help?

Educational stability is essential when a student changes placements. Amity works with child welfare agencies to support continuity in a student’s education.

Foster care includes substitute care arranged by DHS or a tribal child welfare agency, including foster family and relative homes, group homes, emergency shelters, residential facilities, child care institutions and pre-adoptive homes.

Kevin Blanco is the district’s foster care point of contact. Use the Foster care support link above to call.

Who can nominate a student for TAG?

A teacher, staff member or parent/guardian can nominate a student for Talented and Gifted eligibility. Identification uses multiple kinds of evidence. Families may decline identification.

District TAG coordinators are Amie McShane and Diana Sohn, 503-835-3751. Read the TAG education plan through Find support above.

TAG identification

01 · NominateA teacher, staff member or parent/guardian refers a student.
02 · Gather evidenceTeacher and family complete the SIGS-2 rating scale. The teacher gathers student work and qualitative evidence.
03 · Team reviewThe TAG/MTSS team reviews the evidence and decides whether further information or assessment is needed.
04 · Plan togetherFamilies are notified. If identified, the team meets with the family to develop a Personal Educational Plan. Families may decline identification.

How are students screened for TAG?

The team reviews district SBAC results above the 90th percentile in fall. Elementary DIBELS and i-Ready data are reviewed in fall, winter and spring. All second-grade students receive CogAT screening in the second semester.

Scores below the 90th percentile do not automatically exclude a student: identification uses a preponderance of evidence.
